Here are some pics from my adventure in Laos 🇱🇦! Part of my current South East Asia Backpacking (with a suitcase 😝) trip.

Top Tip- take the bus / slow boat from Chaing Ria / Huay Xia if you can it was the best start. It takes two days of cruising around the Mekong River watching river life as you go by – it’s also a very social experience. You are bound to meet these people on the rest of your trip.

Luang Prabang is a great city to stay a few days – explore the Grand Palace, take the steps up Mount Phousi to watch the sunset over LP. Take a trip out to Kuang Si Falls, expect a free fish massage when your swimming!

On buses buckle up the roads are not in great condition & it was a bit hair raising at times but was a cost efficient way to travel around.

Vang Viang is a beautiful small town surround by mountains. There’s lots of adventure options here. I explored caves & hiked up the view points. My must for here is definitely the main lookout point – the view & photo on the motorbike are amazing!

Vientiane is the capital & id probably say you only need 2 days here. It’s a big city however there are still a few gems to be found. Walk around the city & head to the independence monument. A day out worth doing here is the Buddha park, you can get a local bus which goes regularly & is really cheap – you can happily spend a couple of hours here.

Last tip if you are then planning to head to Vietnam do the evisa near the start of your trip as it takes 3 working days to arrive. I didn’t apply for mine till I got to Vientiane on a Friday so I had to stay for a few more days than planned.

If in SEA add Loas to your itinerary even if it’s just two weeks like I did. The people are friendly, there’s lots of culture & the nature is beautiful.
